Some more information about 'Villa Silvia'

The family estate, Villa Silvia, is located in the heart of the Chianti appellation. The vineyards themselves are spread across the beautiful hills surrounding Florence. Thanks to Villa Silvia’s strategic location, they are able to showcase an extensive range of Chiantis, each with its own character and local nuances.

The Salvadori family has been connected to the wine industry since 1930. After World War II, founder Cesari Salvadori decided to dedicate his life entirely to wine, acquiring the family estate. Today, the third generation has taken over, modernizing operations at every level.

Traditional techniques are combined with the latest equipment. Villa Silvia’s Chianti is also presented in the classic “fiasco di paglia” bottle, as a Chianti in its iconic rounded straw-covered flask is a must for the authentic Tuscan dining experience!

The climate

The climate in this region is typically Mediterranean, characterized by warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The hilly terrain provides excellent air circulation, which helps regulate temperature and prevent diseases in the vineyards.

These conditions contribute to a slow and even ripening of the grapes, resulting in wines with depth and complexity.

The terroir

The soil in the vineyards of Villa Silvia mainly consists of rocky, poor soils with a significant amount of shells. Although these soils are low in nutrients, they are ideal for producing structured wines.

The poor soil forces the vines to root deeply, leading to more intense flavor development in the grapes. These soils contribute to the fresh, harmonious, and mineral flavor profiles of the wines.

Winemaking in Chianti

In Chianti, great importance is placed on sustainable and organic winemaking. Many vineyards, such as Villa Silvia, prefer organic cultivation and respect nature by minimizing the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers. This helps preserve biodiversity in the vineyards and ensures that the grapes retain their true character.

The grapes are usually hand-harvested, allowing for careful selection of the best fruit for wine production. During fermentation, natural yeasts present in the vineyard are often used, contributing to the wine’s unique identity.
