Some more information about
'Tacchino Luigi'

Castelletto d’Orba is located west of Gavi. Here, some of the finest Barberas and Dolcettos that Piedmont has to offer are produced. The Tacchino estate lies on the border of the Monferrato and Gavi appellations. While in Alba (Barolo and Barbaresco) Nebbiolo reigns supreme, here grapes like Barbera and Dolcetto receive the same regal treatment, particularly in the best vineyards, often making them superior to their counterparts from the Alba region.

For more than three generations, the Tacchino family has been producing high-quality wines here. Today, Alessio and Romina lead the estate, which they inherited from their father, Luigi.

In the prestigious vineyards of Monferrato, they craft top wines under the Dolcetto d’Ovada, Barbera del Monferrato, and Gavi di Gavi appellations. The two main vineyards form a natural amphitheater that protects the vines from harsh northern winds and create a “climat” of their own. Their careful and expert craftsmanship can be tasted in every bottle that leaves the estate.

The vineyards of Tacchino Luigi

The climate

The region has a Mediterranean climate with continental influences, characterized by warm summers and cold winters. The significant temperature differences between day and night (diurnal fluctuations) are crucial for developing the proper acidity and aromas in the grapes.

The vineyards are oriented south-southwest, which means they benefit optimally from the sun throughout the day.

The terroir

The vineyards are planted on a mix of calcareous clay and white tuff. These soil types contribute to the minerality and structure of the wines.

The surrounding forests and hills promote rich biodiversity, supporting the ecological balance within the vineyards.

This region is characterized by hilly landscapes that form natural amphitheaters, protecting the vineyards from cold northern winds and contributing to an optimal microclimate for the grapes.
